What is the difference between OEM Glock slides and aftermarket alternatives?
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Glock slides come straight from the Glock factory. They guarantee perfect fitment, flawless function, and genuine Glock quality. Aftermarket slides are made by third-party companies. While some are excellent, others may need fitting or can compromise reliability. For duty, defense, or carry use, OEM is always the safer choice.
Will a Gen 3 slide work on a Gen 4 or Gen 5 frame?
No. Glock slides are generation-specific. Gen 3 slides only fit Gen 3 frames. Gen 4 slides work with Gen 4 frames. Gen 5 slides are designed exclusively for Gen 5 frames. The recoil spring systems and internal dimensions changed between generations, so cross-compatibility is not possible without permanent modification.
What's the difference between a complete slide and a stripped slide?
A complete slide assembly includes everything you need: the slide shell, factory barrel, recoil spring, and all internal parts like the striker and extractor. It's ready to drop onto your frame and shoot. A stripped slide is just the shell with sights and channel liner. You'll need to add your own barrel, recoil spring, and internal components.
Can I install a new Glock slide myself or do I need a gunsmith?
Installing a complete slide assembly is simple and requires no special tools. Just remove your old slide and slide the new one onto your frame. A stripped slide requires assembling the internal parts, which is still DIY-friendly with basic knowledge. No gunsmith needed for either option.
How can I tell which generation slide fits my Glock frame?
Check the frame markings. Gen 3 frames have no front slide serrations and usually have finger grooves. Gen 4 frames have a reversible magazine catch and a larger recoil spring assembly. Gen 5 frames have no finger grooves, an ambidextrous slide stop, and front serrations. When in doubt, check your frame's serial number or consult Glock's compatibility guide.
Are these slides compatible with my existing holster?
Most Glock slides work with holsters designed for the same model and generation. Gen 3 slides typically fit standard holsters. Gen 4 and Gen 5 slides may need holsters with extra clearance for ambidextrous controls. Always verify your holster's compatibility before purchasing.
Do your slides come with sights installed?
